“A place where people actually care about you.” That’s how Anthony Johnson describes Passport Academy Charter School (PACS), his alma mater. During a personally challenging time for him, PACS offered flexibility and support —something that traditional schools couldn’t do. Hoping to find a supportive community while staying on track to graduate, Anthony found empowerment, support and confidence. Now, he’s more prepared for his future than ever before thanks to this life-changing experience.
Student-Focused Environment
In traditional schools, students like Anthony don’t always feel seen and heard. PACS makes it possible for students to receive personalized attention and thrive in a student-focused environment. Smaller classes allowed Anthony more one-on-one attention and greatly improved his learning experience.
The staff helped to earn the school an “A+” from Anthony.
“The teachers and staff truly cared about my success and made time for me when I needed help,” he said. “Their flexibility and encouragement helped me stay focused and overcome personal challenges.”
Preparing for the Future
The senior project, which encourages students to explore their interests and is designed to guide students in planning their path after high school, stands out for PACS students. For many, it’s a chance to prove to themselves that hard work and consistency pay off.
Anthony was able to research and present on a topic that he was—and still is—very passionate about, clarifying his career goals and inspiring him to pursue them.

Advice for Future Students
For any student wondering what a second chance could look like, or questioning if PACS would be a good fit for them, Anthony offers this advice: “Don’t be afraid to take the leap.”
Anthony made the choice to take control of his future, and landed in an environment where he felt supported and seen.
“Be open to the support they offer, and stay focused on your goals. You’ll be surprised at what you can accomplish with the right environment.”
