Ms. Cayla Sebastian, a Passport Academy English teacher, has received a Keystone Technology Innovator nomination, earning her a spot in a growing community of Pennsylvania teachers recognized for their exemplary integration of technology in teaching and learning. Ms. Sebastian will be given opportunities to participate in local, state and national conferences designed to enhance their use of technology and grow their leadership skills.
Ms. Sebastian was nominated because of her ability to engage students, foster creativity, promote student collaboration and address diverse learner needs, and do so while utilizing technology to achieve strong outcomes.
“Ms. Sebastian has done a remarkable job of using different types of technology to keep students involved with their work,” said Joe Oliphant, PACS principal. “In some instances, she’s leveraged QR codes to make it easier for students to complete daily assignments. In others, she’s creatively weaved video clips into class discussion. This nomination reflects her creativity as a teacher and her commitment to her students.”
In addition to a variety of conferences and networking opportunities, Keystone innovator nominees receive access to special grants and webinars. They also become part of a supportive education community where they can share ideas and resources for teaching.

"In my English 10 and 12 classes, I’ve always believed that students’ voices matter just as much as the literature, film, and art we study,” said Ms. Sebastian. “By thoughtfully integrating technology, I create opportunities for students to share their opinions, develop their own narratives, and express their creativity in meaningful ways. For me, this nomination means being able to give my students new ways to find and share their voice in a world that doesn’t always want to hear it. I am also a big proponent of building empathetic citizens through my teaching. Innovation and technology help me empower students to think independently and use modern tools to amplify who they are and support the people and causes around them."
Ms. Sebastian’s nomination reflects not only her individual dedication to innovation, but also PACS’ ongoing commitment to equipping students with the tools, support and inspiration they need to succeed. At PACS, talented educators like Ms.Sebastian are empowered to think creatively, embrace new approaches and continually evolve their teaching, all in service of providing every student with a high-quality, forward-thinking education.
