Meeting With Mayor Ed Gainey Made Possible "My Brother's Keeper" Initiative
February 10, 2025

Passport Academy Charter School (PACS) students recently had a unique opportunity to engage in civic leadership firsthand through the City of Pittsburgh's My Brother’s Keeper initiative. During a visit to the Mayor’s office, students connected with Mayor Ed Gainey and heard his perspective on leadership, civic engagement, education and workforce development. The discussion provided a valuable look at the role of city government in creating a thriving and inclusive community.
My Brother’s Keeper (MBK) Pittsburgh is an initiative that addresses persistent opportunity gaps faced by boys and young men of color and ensure all young people can reach their full potential. PACS partnered with the program to create new pathways for mentorship and career exploration for students.
Beyond their conversation with the Mayor, students met with representatives from the Human Resources and Public Safety teams, broadening their understanding of these potential career fields. The visit also included a question-and-answer session with Mayor Gainey, where students were able to learn more about the areas of government that matter most to them. This visit demonstrate PACS’s commitment to connecting students with real-world experiences that empower them—both professionally and personally—as they prepare for their futures.
